Best Pears for Baking?
Is air frying baking? it feels more like baking than frying, whatever. Here are the best pears to use for fraking.
Okay so first off we got the Anjou pear. This sweet almost citrus pear is super juicy and defiantly one of the most popular pears in the states. It comes in either red or green and has a long shelf life.
Anjou Pears come into season in the fall but can be found in most grocery stores year around. Their firm texture makes them a good option for baking, cooking, and yes air fryer pears.
Next up we have the Bosc. The Bosc pear is what we use in this air fryer pear recipe. We like them because they have their flavor and shape holds up well when cooked.
Their sweet almost spicy flavor is unique to other pears. They naturally have a cinnamon and nutmeg taste that is only amplified with our air fryer pear recipe.
The Bartlett pear is portably the most common pair in north america. Its your classic pear with the fat booty bottom and slender top. Its skin is smooth and its flesh is sweet.
Bartletts are commonly used for canning and in jams or jellies, but you can cook with them too.
Asian Pears look more like brown apples with tiny little white spots. They are super sweet and famously crisp. Certainly a good option for air fryer pears.
Okay, so pick one or try a couple and get to making this air fryer pear recipe.
Pears aren’t just a tasty treat good for air frying, they’re also good for you. But don’t take my word for it, read about it here.
Air Fryer Endorsement
I won’t lie, I fought the air fryer movement. I didn’t want another big ass kitchen appliance taking up space in my 700 square foot apartment. Then one year I was gifted one for Christmas.
That was the year I vowed to stop exchanging gifts. But it was also the year I started playing around with the air fryer. And I must say, in a very scroogey tone, they’re pretty great.
I had to make my cat an outdoor pet to find space for it, but I am formally endorsing the air fryer. This air fryer pear recipe is a great representation of why the air fryer is so great.
Without needing to add any oil, the air fryer is much healthier than deep frying. Oven cooking in the heat of the summer can be miserable and warm your house to uncomfortable levels, the air fryer doesn’t. It cooks everything in a flash, and is super easy to clean. The main knock on it being, and I know whiskers agrees with me, is the size. It’s like having a fat Yoda live on your countertop.
If you’re in the market, this is a great option. Air Fryer Link
Oven Baked Pears
If my riveting previous endorsement of air fryers didn’t send you to amazon to purchase the countertop consuming appliance, and you want to convert this air fryer pear recipe to an oven baked pear recipe, go for it.
It will take awhile longer, but thats about the only difference here. Just put the pears in an oven safe baking dish and cook for 35-40 minutes at 375 degrees. Your cat will thank you.
Air Fryer Pears
Air Fryer Pear Ingredients
This isn’t a long list. But it can be modified in many ways. Stick to our list for a tried and true air fryer pear recipe, or swap out the toppings and spices for a creative new air fryer pear recipe.
- Pears: You need pears to make air fryer pears?! Don’t roll your eyes, there’s a lot of options here actually. You’ll probably go with what is at your local grocery store, but if you have options its good to know a few things. We went with the flavorful Bosc pear.
- Spices: This recipe just screams fall. And what is more fall than pumpkin spice? Cinnamon and everything nice. Everything nice = ginger, nutmeg, allspice, cloves.
- Toppings: Vanilla ice cream, greek yogurt, granola, pecans, walnuts, coconut, maple syrup! Like a kid at the end of a ice cream sundae bar, you could really overdo it here. Just pick a couple and let them shine. Or load your air fryer pear up with everything and get a stomach ache… Told ya so! We like whipped cream and toasted walnuts.
How to Make Air Fryer Pears
Follow these simple instructions to make your own quick, easy, and delicious air fryer pears.
Step 1: Prep your Fruit
Cut your pears in half. Use an ice cream scoop or metal spoon to core the pears. This is where your whip cream will sit. The more you core the more whip cream you can sneak onto the pears… just saying.
Step 2: Make your Spice Butter
Making your own pumpkin spice blend is easy! Simply combine the Cinnamon, Allspice, Nutmeg, Ginger, and Cloves in a small bowl and mix together. Set aside.
Melt 3 Tbsp’s of butter in a nonstick skillet. Add spice blend and swirl around to incorporate the spices into the butter. Drizzle the spiced butter evenly over the pear halves. Reserve a Tbsp of the spiced butter.
Toast 1/4 cup of crushed walnut pieces in the reserved spiced butter. set aside.
Step 3: Air Fry your fruit
Its fry time baby. This is where using an air fryer will really contrast a conventional oven. At 350 degrees you only need 8-12 minutes for these air fryer pears to cook. You would need to triple or quadruple that cook time in an oven.
Cook with cut side down for 8 minutes. Flip and drizzle the remaining walnut spiced butter mixture and cook for an additional 3 minutes.
Once cooked, use tongs to transfer them to a serving plate.
Step 4: Top it off !
Okay, couple trains of thought here. Personally I have accepted that I will develop diabetes later in life, so I add a big scoop of whipped cream, dust it with cinnamon sugar, and drizzle caramel over the top.
Frankie is more sensible however, and uses a dollop of greek yogurt and the toasted walnuts and spice blend. Either way you can’t go wrong. Just enjoy the dish warm and let us know what you think!
Air Fryer Pear Leftovers
Air fryer pears will keep in the fridge for 2-3 days if you store them in an airtight container.
If you don’t think you’ll be able to eat the pears within a few days, you can also freeze them for longer storage. To freeze pears, transfer them to a freezer-safe container and label it with the date.
Leftover air fryer pears will keep in the freezer for up to 3 months. Just try not to add all the whipped cream and toppings if you know you’ll be having leftovers. They can get soggy and weird.
When you’re ready to eat the leftover pears, you can either microwave the pears or place them in the air fryer for a few minutes until they are heated through. They won’t be as good the second time around, but at least you aren’t a wasteful Wendy.
How to Store Air Fryer Pears
No idea, I’ve never had leftovers…
But my research team tells me they will be just fine to keep in the fridge for 3-4 days. Just put them in an air tight container and try not to sleep walk to the kitchen in the middle of the night. Its dangerous to operate utensils while unconscious. #sleepwalkawarness
Don’t bother freezing your air fryer pears. Lets be honest, you’re just going to forget about them in the back of the freezer and six years down the road you’re going to have to explain to your kids why you couldn’t just sack up and find that extra secret compartment.
